Phil Jagielka missed England training on Tuesday, while Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere were also forced out of the session.
England host France in a Wednesday friendly at Wembley with a squad already short on a host of key men such as Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, John Terry and Jermain Defoe.
Everton central defender Jagielka has been struggling with a fever and sat out the entire session but he may be okay to face the French.
Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart – who has become the number one under manager Fabio Capello – pulled out midway through with a back injury. He will be examined later on Tuesday by England physio Gary Lewin before a final prognosis is made.
Wilshere also had to hobble out of the session, the Arsenal midfielder’s hopes of making his first international start now over, with Capello confirming at his press conference that he is injured and will not play.
There is better news for Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll who took part in Tuesday training, having initially reported with a groin problem and he will be handed his first start, as will Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson. Capello also confirmed that Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs will start at left back.
