North End line up Fergie replacement

Sam Allardyce and Paul Jewell have been suggested as successors to Darren Ferguson after he was sacked by Preston North End.

Ferguson moved to Deepdale in January but the former Peterborough boss endured a torrid time at North End and left the club five points adrift of safety and at the foot of the Championship table.

Jewell has been out of work since leaving Derby in 2008 but is thought to be keen to get back into management and has already been linked with the Preston hot-seat.

Allardyce has dismissed by Blackburn Rovers earlier this month and the former Bolton could be tempted to take over at North End, although he may prefer to wait for a Premier League position.

Brian Laws, who was sacked by Burnley yesterday, has also been linked with a quick return to management as Preston boss.
