Kenny Dalglish says the extent of Steven Gerrard's groin injury will become clear by the end of this week.
Gerrard has not travelled to Portugal for Thursday’s Europa League last 16 tie against Braga. Instead he will be assessed at Melwood, with Dalglish telling his pre-match press conference at the Estadio AXA: "He's not suffered any aggravation. He's got a problem with his groin.
"He's not travelled and we'll have him looked at. We should have more news on Friday. There's nothing new."
Meanwhile, Dalglish has lauded the man that he made the clubs record signing. Andy Carroll was signed for £35m from Newcastle on deadline day and finally made his debut as a substitute in the 3-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday.
He is a potential starter in Portugal after making his comeback from the ankle injury that stalled his debut, but Dalglish says he will not rush the player into action if he feels he is not ready.
"He's been fantastic in the way he has responded to the medical people's advice and the way they've got him through the recuperation process,” said the Scot.
"We're as desperate to get him on the pitch as he is. But we'll be responsible. The games are part and parcel of his fitness and recuperation, and we'll be as responsible as the medical people have been.
"Andy and ourselves will both have to be patient."
On the game against Braga, Dalglish added: "It is a difficult match for us. We've watched Braga on DVD and we know what we're up against.
"We know they had a fantastic season last year. This season it maybe hasn't gone as well as they would have hoped, but that doesn't mean it's not going to be anything other than a difficult game for us tomorrow.
"They work hard for each other, are very well organised and we know that if we're not up to having a good, competitive game then we're going to be in trouble.
"We'll play in whatever way the game is thrown at us. If we've got the ball, obviously we'll try to score and if we don't have it, we'll try our best not to lose a goal.
"It's very difficult to score a goal if you don't have the ball, but that doesn't mean to say the more possession you have, the better chance you have of scoring.
"It's all about what you do with the ball and if we're more creative with it, then we'll have a better chance of scoring.
"But Braga are a very good side who work very hard for each other and are well organised. It's going to be a difficult game, but we hope Braga are saying the same about us."
