Coventry City have parted company with manager Aidy Boothroyd.
Boothroyd and assistant Martin Pert leave the club after the Sky Blues slumped to 19th in the Championship, having won just one of their last 16 games in the division. Steve Harrison and Andy Thorn are to take temporary charge ahead of Tuesday’s game at playoff-chasing Burnley.
Earlier in the season they had been in the promotion picture, but their dreadful run has seen them drop to just three places outside the bottom three. However, they do still have a seven-point advantage over third-from-bottom Scunthorpe United.
Patience has run out with former Watford boss Boothroyd though, with a club statement early on Monday morning reading: “The board of Coventry City Football Club has today relieved Aidy Boothroyd of his first team duties with immediate effect.
“Assistant manager Martin Pert has also been relieved of his duties.
“First team coach Steve Harrison and chief scout Andy Thorn will be placed in temporary charge of team affairs.
“We would like to place on record our thanks to Aidy and Martin for their efforts.
“We will not be holding a media conference today as the team is preparing for the match at Burnley tomorrow (Tuesday).”
Coventry lost 1-0 at home to Hull City on Saturday in what proved to be Boothroyd’s last game at the helm.
