McQuoid gets call for Slovenia game

by JP Lonergan , 27 March 2011

Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington has called up Millwall forward Josh McQuoid ahead of Tuesday’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Slovenia.

Worthington’s side face the Slovenes at Windsor Park on the back of Friday’s harrowing 2-1 loss away to Serbia, a game in which McQuoid’s fellow striker David Healy was booked.

That yellow card meant a suspension for the Rangers forward, and Worthington has other problems in attack as Kyle Lafferty, who started in Belgrade, is a doubt with a knee injury.

McQuoid, who made his debut for Northern Ireland against Morocco in November, will supplement the front line options.

Captain Aaron Hughes and fellow defender Jonny Evans are also injury doubts for the Slovenia game with shoulder and groin problems. However, key midfielder Steven Davis is in contention after he missed the Serbia loss with a hamstring injury.
