Jelavic screamer seals Rangers win

by Tony Cuddihy , 13 April 2011

Nikica Jelavic scored a spectacular overhead kick to give Rangers a 1-0 win over Aberdeen in the SPL on Wednesday night.

The 'Gers now stand only two points behind leaders Celtic.

The Dons actually started the brighter, with both Sone Aluko and Josh Magennis testing Allen McGregor in the Rangers goal.

However, Jelavic struck with a quite brilliant effort after 22 minutes, a strike that would ultimately decide the game.

The Croat gathered the ball from team-mate Kyle Lafferty 18 yards from goal, outmuscled his marker, swivelled and fired the ball past a stranded Jamie Langfield.

Magennis and Chris Maguire both came close to equalising for the home side, as Rangers laboured to hold on to their lead.

Ultimate, Walter Smith's men had Maurice Edu to thank after he cleared a Rob Milsom cross off the Rangers line with full-time approaching.
