There were wins for Derry, Kerry, Wicklow and Meath as the Christy Ring Cup got underway on Saturday.
Derry earned an impressive victory in the all-Ulster affair against Down at Ballycran. The Oak Leafers were 2-17 to 1-13 victors despite an early goal from Down's Gareth Johnson. Oisin Doherty and Alan Grant goaled as Derry hit back.
John Egan goaled for Kerry as they won 1-25 to 1-21 in a high-scoring affair away to Kildare, while Enan Glynn got Wicklow's only goal as they beat Mayo 1-19 to 1-17. Ronan Cullinane had early netted for the Westerners.
Meath defeated Nicky Rackard Cup holders Armagh 2-21 to 1-17 at the Athletic Grounds.
In the Rackard Cup, London beat Allianz Hurling League Division 3B champions Roscommon 1-19 to 1-17 in Ruislip, while there was an easy 4-18 to 1-7 win for Louth over Sligo.
Finally, the Lory Meagher Cup saw holders Longford downed 4-17 to 2-12 by Allianz Hurling League Division 4 champions Tyrone. Donegal earned a 3-16 to 1-13 win over Warwickshire and South Down thumped Leitrim 4-25 to 0-8.
Cavan could not a field a team for their game against Fermanagh so they handed their fellow Ulster county a walkover.
