Galway secured their fourth All-Ireland U21 FC crown at sunsplashed Croke Park on Sunday as shock Ulster champions Cavan proved no match for their Connacht counterparts.
After a decidedly sluggish start, the Tribesmen got going and at the break had one hand on the Clarke Cup as they led 2-10 to 0-5 with full-forward Patrick Sweeney and fellow attacker Eric Monaghan netting for the men from the west.
The Breffni men needed to hit the ground running in the second-half but their chances of staging any sort of a comeback were dealt a blow when 'keeper Manus Breathnach saved a Barry Reilly penalty four minutes after the interval.
To their credit Cavan did continue to compete and reduced the arrears through points from Niall Murray, Kevin Tierney and Niall McDermott.
However, with man-of-the-match Mark Hehir, who finished with a tally of 0-8, in sublime form it was always going to be a struggle for Terry Hyland's side who overcame Wexford at the semi-final stage.
Indeed, Galway could have had a third goal when substitute Michael Farragher was set free but it was to be Cavan who netted the third goal of the day - substitute Conor McClarey cooly sliding the ball past Breathnach.
