Prior sets sights on Roscommon

Leitrim defender Barry Prior believes that home advantage will be a large factor in his side's Connacht Senior Football Championship semi final against Roscommon on June 12.

Leitrim will face the defending Connacht champions at home after they managed a surprise 1-10 to 0-10 victory against Sligo at Markievicz Park on Sunday.

Conor Beirne scored the decisive goal in the second half that ultimately handed victory to the Ridge County. The game also saw three players sent off; Brain Curren and Eamonn O’Hara for Sligo, and Leitrim’s Emlyn Mulligan on his return to the senior squad.

"It was a great day for us,” said Prior. "I suppose not too many gave us a chance coming down here, but we knew within ourselves that we were capable if we put in the performance.

"I thought he (Beirne) took his goal very well and it was perfect timing."

Leitrim can now go in to their semi final with Roscommon knowing that they have the home advantage, and that they won’t just be written off before the game.

"Any team that has come to Páirc Seán over the last while we've given them a good game," said Prior.

"Hopefully we'll be able to match Roscommon. They are Connacht champions so there's something to play for."
