Milan defender Jankulovski retires

by Shane Keegan , 02 June 2011

AC Milan and Czech full back Marek Jankulovski has retired from football at the age of 34

Jankulovski has been playing with Milan for the last six seasons, but has failed to break into the first team squad on a regular basis.

The Czech made 158 appearances for Milan over his career there, winning the Champions League and the Serie A league title once each.

"Italy has been my second home, as has Milan, but everything comes to an end," he told Milan's in-house TV channel.

"The memory will stay with me and I can always come back.

"When you leave somewhere you remember everything you've done and now I realise all the great things I managed to do here.

"I can't see myself being a coach, but maybe a sporting director or an agent for young players," he added.

Jankulovski started his playing career with his local side Banik Ostrava. He then moved to Napoli in 2000, and then on to Udinese in 2002. He has made 77 appearances for the Czech Republic, and scored 11 times for his country.
