Clare Hurling boss Ger O’Loughlin is set to have a ‘very serious think’ about his future as manager of the county team following his side’s defeat to Galway last weekend in the All-Ireland championship preliminary rounds.
Clare were beaten quite heavily by Galway, 4-25 to 0-20, and also made an early exit from the Munster Championship following a defeat to Tipperary.
However, despite a poor Championship season, O’Loughlin still remains optimistic in regards to the future of hurling in the county.
“That was the last thing in my head going into the match,” said O’Loughlin.
“It would have been unfair to have thought about that. But I’ll have a very serious think about it now. It’s like everything else you give your heart and soul for the two years.
“When I went in, I knew after a couple of weeks we were starting off from a low base with regard to experienced players. I think we’ve made progress. Thought he results are poor, we actually have a nucleus built now to go forward.
“We need an injection again now of five or six 18/19/20-year-olds in the next year or two. Clare will win something in the next maybe three years.”
