O’Dwyer lays down challenge

by Shane Keegan , 07 July 2011

Wicklow football boss Mick O’Dwyer has told his players to prove that they are as good as Armagh when the two teams face each other on Saturday in the All-Ireland preliminary rounds.

Wicklow go into the game as massive underdogs, but O’Dwyer believes that his team can match Armagh in everything they do in Saturday’s decisive clash.

“Without a doubt in the world, the win over Sligo was a huge plus,” said O’Dwyer.

“When you get a win like that, players want to play and all of a sudden they realise they are just as good as one of the teams around.

"This Wicklow team are certainly as good as any team left in this grout at the present time. The win over Sligo has given the team a great lift and put a spring in their step. The players are training hard and working hard.

"We're all looking forward to the game against Armagh. It will be a big challenge for Wicklow but the bigger the challenge, the better.

"We will be going in as complete underdogs against Armagh in Armagh. There's no doubt about that. That should make it better for our players. They have the confidence to play to their full potential which I hope they will do in Armagh.

"We have an equal chance, we are as good as Armagh and it will be touch and go. And we are hoping to come out the right side in the end."
