Ryan: Tyrone will edge it

by Shane Kennedy , 04 August 2011

Wexford manager Jason Ryan feels that Tyrone's strength-in-depth might just be enough to give them the edge against Dublin at Croke Park this weekend.

Ryan is by no means writing off Dublin, but the Tyrone reserve line-up last weekend of Brian Dooher, Owen Mulligan, Stephen O'Neill, Enda McGinley, Davy Harte and Justin McMahon speaks for itself.

He told The Irish Independent: "Dublin do have a good squad but they also have certain players who are better than others.

"The Dublin team that starts games is definitely better than the team that finishes matches. To me, that's a big factor.

"The Tyrone team that starts and finishes? I'm not convinced which is better.

"The one that starts is probably the best one to start but the one that finishes is certainly the best team to finish.

"I don't necessarily think Dublin have that yet."

There has been much talk about Bernard Brogan's performance against Ryan's Wexford in the Leinster final, most of it dismissing the performance as a freak occurance.

Ryan doesn't see it that way.

He added: "Just look at where Bernard was forced to shoot from. Graeme (Molloy) kept forcing him to the outside where he had to shoot from.

"Graeme didn't get the credit he deserved. It wasn't just a case of Bernard having an off day.

"He was shackled."
