Bolton boss Owen Coyle has confirmed he is in talks with Manchester City as he looks to seal a deal for Shaun Wright-Phillips.
The England international has been told he can leave Eastlands this summer and has been heavily linked with a switch to the Reebok Stadium.
Coyle has admitted he would "love" to have Wright-Phillips in his squad and a deal now looks on the cards for the former Chelsea man.
"Shaun is a tremendous player," said Coyle. "He is someone I would love to bring to the club. Whether it is possible, only time will tell."
A stumbling block on Wright-Phillips leaving City so far has apparently been his high wage demands with other clubs unable to match what City can pay but it is thought he would be willing to take a pay cut to move to Bolton, although Coyle stressed a move still remains some way away.
"There are financial implications involved," Coyle confirmed. "Players at Manchester City are on contracts that are more than we could pay. There is a threshold we cannot go beyond.
"But there has been dialogue between our chairman and (City chief executive) Garry Cook.
"That is where we are at the moment. There is nothing concrete."
