Chelsea line up third Modric bid

Chelsea are reportedly ready to lodge a new £30m offer to try to lure Tottenham midfield star Luka Modric to Stamford Bridge.

Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas remains keen on signing the Croatia playermaker despite having two bids of £22m and £27m rejected earlier this summer.

Despite Modric revealing that he is keen to complete a move across London, Tottenham are desperate to keep hold of one of their most valued assets and chairman Daniel Levy has said that he is not prepared to sell the midfielder.

But the latest speculation suggests that Chelsea will test Spurs' patience again with a new, improved bid which could be a straight cash offer or involve a player plus cash deal with Blues midfielder Yossi Benayoun.

Modric is currently injured and is unlikely to be involved in Tottenham's opening Europa League match against Hearts on Thursday night.
