Young on Jol's radar

by Setanta Staff , 16 August 2011 Villa stopper on Jol's radar

Martin Jol is being linked with a swoop for Aston Villa defender Luke Young as he looks to replace the outgoing John Pantsil at Fulham.

The Cottagers chief allowed Pantsil to join Leicester City in the close-season when his contract expired and, while he has the likes of Aaron Hughes, Chris Baird and Stephen Kelly who can operate in the right-back spot, it seems he would like a permanent fixture in that role.

As a result it seems the Dutch tactician will look to snap up 32-year-old former England international, Young, who impressed him during Fulham's goalless draw against Villa in Saturday's opening Premier League encounter at Craven Cottage.

Young has been a regular for Villa when he has not been sidelined due to injury problems and boss Alex McLeish would no doubt want to keep him at Villa Park.

However, the former Middlesbrough, Charlton and Tottenham man snubbed a move to Liverpool last summer because he wanted to be guaranteed first-team football.

And, as Jol would no doubt be in a position to offer him that in addition to a return to his London roots, it could pave the way clear for a switch if McLeish agrees.
