Niko Kranjcar is on the verge of completing a move to Sunderland, according to the player's agent.
The Croatia international is keen to move away from Tottenham after falling out of favour at White Hart Lane - he started just two gamaes in the league last season - and Black Cats boss Steve Bruce recently spoke of his interest in the player.
A number of clubs have been linked with the midfielder, who last month admitted he could stay at Tottenham if Luka Modric completed a move to Chelsea, but Kranjcar’s representative Adrian Aljai insists the 27-year-old is now close to joining Sunderland.
"We are about to close a deal with Sunderland," Aljai was quoted by the Daily Express.
"I believe that is the best solution for Niko."
Details of the deal are unknown with Bruce reported to be considering whether to bring the player either on loan or on a permanent basis.
Meanwhile, the Express also reports that Chelsea are prepared to offer Salomon Kalou and Yossi Benayoun in a player-plus-cash deal for Modric.
The Blues have already had two bids for the player rejected but they remain keen on bringing him to Stamford Bridge and owner Roman Abramovich believes a player-plus-cash deal is the way forward.
