Sunderland have distanced themselves from comments by Nico Kranjcar's agent about a move for the Spurs winger.

The Croatia international is keen on a move away from White Hart Lane in order to find first-team football.

A number of Premier League clubs, including Sunderland and Everton, have been linked with the the 27-year-old throughout the summer as well as sides in Spain and Italy.

Kranjcar's agent Adrian Alja had earlier revealed that talks with Sunderland were ongoing and that a deal was close, saying: "We're going to close with Sunderland, who should have almost reached agreement with Tottenham.

"I think it is the best solution for Niko, as he has always wanted to stay in the Premier League."

However, reports from the north-east suggest Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has no immediate interest in adding his squad, having bought 10 players already this summer.
