Ridge County reappoint Moran

by Oli Skehan , 17 August 2011

Mickey Moran will take charge of the Leitrim senior footballers for a fourth year after he was given the green light to continue in the role at a special meeting of the Leitrim County Board on Tuesday evening.

The reappointment of the Derry native was heavily backed by delegates with only four votes against the man from Maghera and selector Brian Breen after chairman Joe Flynn revealed that fellow selector Martin McGowan had stepped down from his role with the Ridge County.

Flynn went on to say that he had consulted with all members of the panel who had travelled to Newry for the All-Ireland SFC Qualifier clash with Down on July 9 and there had been 100 per cent approval for the former Derry, Mayo, Donegal and Sligo boss to stay on with the Connacht outfit.

However, some delegates took issue with Moran's criticism of players who had been dropped from the panel for disciplinary reasons and Flynn said that all players deemed good enough for the panel, including those who had been dropped, would be invited into next year's squad.
