McCarthy eyes 'Boro striker

by Setanta Staff , 18 August 2011

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is eyeing a surprise move for Middlesbrough striker Marvin Emnes, according to reports.

Emnes has built a growing reputation for himself at the Riverside Stadium and McCarthy was among the crowd that saw the striker score his sixth goal in four games this season as Boro won 3-1 at Barnsley on Tuesday night.

Premier League new-boys Swansea were heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old Dutchman over the summer and Wolves could move for the striker before the transfer window shuts.

Any move could depend on whether Arsenal follow up their reported interest in Kevin Doyle.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is anxious to strengthen his squad in all departments before the end of the month and is said to have £40m to spend following the sale of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona at the start of the week.
