Delfouneso plea to Villa fans

Striker Nathan Delfouneso is hoping Aston Villa's fans give former Birmingham boss Alex McLeish 'a chance' to bring them success.

The 20-year-old spoke out ahead of McLeish's first game at Villa Park, against Blackburn on Saturday, since his controversial switch from their second city rivals during the summer.

And while many Villa fans protested about the prospect of McLeish taking over from Gerard Houllier, Delfouneso is calling on them to give the 52-year-old Scot their full backing.

"His (McLeish's) move from the Blues to Villa is well documented, but it's football and things like this happen in football," he told Sky Sports News.

"It's one of those things in football that you just have to get on with. I am sure that he will do well for the team, bring it together and have a successful season."

McLeish got a decent reception from Villa's travelling fans ahead of the 0-0 draw at Fulham last Saturday and Delfouneso is hoping for more of the same from the home fans this weekend.

He added: "Hopefully, yes. The Villa fans are passionate about football, they are passionate about the team and want the best for it.

"I am sure that they will give him a chance - I hope they will give him a chance."
