AVB excited by Lukaku

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas believes new striker Romelu Lukaku has what it takes to be as big as star as veteran Didier Drogba.

Lukaku, who could make his Blues debut as early as this weekend against West Brom, is not short of confidence after completing his 'dream' move from Anderlecht and his manager has just as much faith in him.

The Belgium international has often been compared to Drogba due to similarities in build and qualities on the field, and if the 18-year-old can do half as well as the Ivory Coast forward then Villas-Boas predicts he will soon have the fans calling his name as well.

"If he performs to the level that Drogba has performed for this club then why not?" he said.

"He is tremendously powerful, very strong in the challenges. Despite his size, he has an explosiveness and an ability to react quickly which looks pretty amazing.

"He just has to break through this competitive level and, for sure, he will get opportunities this year."

However, Villas-Boas has warned the young striker to take nothing for granted as Drogba, Fernando Torres and Nicolas Anelka will not be giving up their shirts without a fight - just ask Daniel Sturridge.
