Aston Villa brush off Blackburn

by Setanta Staff , 20 August 2011

Goals from Gabriel Agbonlahor, Emile Heskey and Darren Bent helped Aston Villa to a 3-1 win over Blackburn at Villa Park.

Morten Gamst Pedersen scored for the visitors, but it was another abject performance for the Lancashire side, who now lie bottom of the league after two games.

Villa took the lead through Agbonlahor's 50th Premier League goal.

It was a beauty as well, as he cut inside Michel Salgado and curled the ball past Paul Robinson and into the top left-hand corner of the net from 12 yards out.

Heskey made it two on 25 minutes with a low strike from the edge of the area after being set-up by Agbonlahor's lay-off.

However, after a lively 45 minutes, Agbonlahor did not appear for the second half with a suspected injury, with Marc Albrighton replacing him.

And Blackburn got a foothold in the game seven minutes after the break when Pedersen headed home after a good run and cross from Junior Hoilett down the left wing.

Midway through the second half, Bent made it 3-1 when he took advantage of the loose ball to shoot past Robinson, after Stiliyan Petrov's shot had initial been blocked by Grant Hanley.
