Chelsea land Valencia's Mata

by Dave Maher , 21 August 2011

Chelsea and Valencia have agreed on a deal that will see Juan Mata move from the Mestalla to Stamford Bridge.

According to the Spanish club's official website, they have come to "an agreement in principle" with the London giants over the sale of the 23-year-old playmaker.

It appears that if Mata passes a medical at Chelsea, he will join the squad of boss Andre Villas-Boas in the coming days.

No further details concerning the deal have been released, though it is rumoured that the attacking midfielder will cost Chelsea somewhere in the region of £25 million.

Mata has starred at several underage levels in international competition for Spain, helping his country to success at this summer's European Under-21 Football Championship, where he provided more goal assists than any other player.

The former Real Madrid academy member has represented Spain on 11 occasions at senior level, scoring four times.
