Wenger won't jump ship

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is adamant that he will not quit the Gunners after their disappointing start to the season.

The Gunners were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday as injuries and indiscipline continue to curtail their early season hopes. Samir Nasi did play, but he is still widely expected to leave the club for Manchester City, while – of course – Cesc Fabregas has already gone to Barcelona.

With a lack of big name arrivals coming in, more and more fans are beginning to get on the back of the Frenchman, who has failed to deliver a trophy since 2005 and won the last of his three Premier League titles in 2004.

But Wenger, who has been in north London since 1996, says he has no intention of walking away and has set his sights on getting a smile back on the fans’ faces, starting by completing their Champions League playoff with Udinese on Wednesday in a successful manner.

"There is no chance of me walking away," the Frenchman, whose side lead Udinese 1-0 from last Tuesday’s home leg.

"The chance I have is to give my best for the club but we are living in circumstances where every defeat is seen as a disgrace and an earthquake.

"I always feel under pressure but no more than usual.

"We now have a massive match on Wednesday night against Udinese in Italy.

"As it is the qualifier for the Champions League group stage, it is of big importance.

"So the important thing now is to lift the players.

"We want the supporters to be happy but for this match we had eight players out.

"I don't feel it is all doom and gloom. I feel there are also positives."
