Arsenal are set to test Everton's resolve to keep their best players by making a renewed bid to sign Phil Jagielka this week.
David Moyes has little, if any, money to spend on new players but he is determined to keep hold of his star names at the club and centre half Jagielka falls into that bracket.
Arsenal on the other hand have cash to spare but are in danger of falling into crisis after a poor start to the campaign and there is increasing pressure on Arsene Wenger to add some proven quality to his squad.
Arsenal have had bids of £10m and £12m turned down for Jagielka with Everton reluctant to sell but a renewed bid from the Gunners could prove difficult to turn down.
