Mata travels to London

Juan Mata is one step closer to securing his big money move to Chelsea after the Spanish winger arrived in London for a medical.

The Blues and Valencia agreed a deal for the 23 year-old midfielder on Sunday night but neither club have disclosed the fee.

The deal is subject to the player passing the relevant medical tests but Mata said on his Twitter account this morning that he is heading to the UK to complete his move.

He tweeted: "Travel to London for medical examination, and come back to Valencia to say goodbye to everybody as you deserve, thanks so much!"

New Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has identified a lack of creativity in midfield as one area which requires improvement before the transfer window closes.

He will no doubt hope Mata, who impressed during Spain's World Cup triumph in South Africa can provide some added spark to his ageing squad.
