Manchester United may have stuttered a little against West Brom on the opening day of the new Premier League season but they were at their imperious best against Tottenham on Monday night - particularly after the break - as they ran out convincing 3-0 winners at Old Trafford.
Danny Welbeck, Anderson and Wayne Rooney all found the net for Alex Ferguson's men and they now have maximum points from their first two outings.
Tottenham, seeking a first win at the home of the champions since 1989, kept the scoreline blank in the first-half, with American 'keeper Brad Friedel marking his Spurs debut with a full-stretch save from Tom Cleverley's well-struck shot.
However, the Red Devils were simply magnificent after the break as Spurs, who were playing their first game of the season after their opener was postponed in the wake of the London riots, looked a bit rusty.
Welbeck, on loan with Sunderland last season where he found the net on six occasions, broke the deadlock just after the hour when he headed in Cleverley's precise right-wing cross and the prodigious 20-year-old was instrumental in the second - he set up Brazilian midfielder Anderson to score a rare goal in the 76th minute.
Rooney completed the rout in the 87th minute when he guided a header into the corner from close range
The win sees United move into second place behind neighbours Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League table.
