Stephen Molumphy insists that the task of appointing Davy Fitzgerald's successor is "up to the county board" with the Waterford hurlers set to have no say in the process.
The Deise captain, an Officer with the Irish Defence Forces, feels the former Clare netminder has "left things in good shape" and that bringing in another outside manager wouldn't bother him.
Tony Mansfield, who had two spells in charge of Waterford during the lean years of the 1980s and 1990s, is the last native to take charge of the Munster side and the county board will begin their search for a new boss on Monday evening with former player and current U21 boss Fergal Hartley the early frontrunner if reports are to be believed.
"All the lads are concentrating on their clubs and the moment and I've only spoken to the lads who I've been playing against," the Ballyduff Upper clubman told the Irish Examiner.
"We haven't got together since the All-Ireland semi-final but Davy has left things in good shape. I don't really mind where the next manager is from. It's up to the county board to decide that. We have no input into it whatsoever."
