Moran to miss Australia trip

by Oli Skehan , 20 September 2011

Mayo's Andy Moran will not travel to Australia with the Irish International Rules squad after breaking his leg in training over the weekend.

The man from Ballaghadereen, whose consistency and coolness were at the heart of his county's achievements this past season, suffered a broken fibula as he was tackled during last Saturday's session in Parnell Park and his intention now is to be fit in time for the start of the Allianz Football League campaign next February.

"While it is disappointing to miss out on the chance to go to Australia, I'm quite relieved because it was a clean break and I should be back playing within three or four months," Moran said.

"If it had been my knee, I'd be looking at six or eight months out."
