David Matthews, one of Ireland's most successful middle distance athletes, has joined new Cork hurling manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy's backroom team, as physical trainer.
Barry-Murphy believes the double Olympian will "bring a new dimension" to the Rebel set-up as the county's hurlers look to win the Liam McCarthy for the first time in six years.
"David has a wonderful track record and will be a great boost to the Cork senior hurling set-up as we prepare for 2012," Barry-Murphy told Cork's official GAA website.
"He has a tremendous record at the highest level in athletics and having met him, I believe he will bring a new dimension to our physical preparation and help Cork back to the highest level".
