Frank Clark has been charged with heading up the search for Nottingham Forest's next manager after being confirmed as the club's new chairman.

Clark, a Forest favourite who previously enjoyed success as both a player and manager at the midlands club, accepted Nigel Doughty's approach to succeed him earlier on Wednesday.

Doughty stood down as chairman on October 2, the same day that saw manager Steve McClaren tender his resignation following a 3-1 home loss to Birmingham.

"Frank Clark has accepted Nigel Doughty's invitation to succeed him as chairman of Nottingham Forest with immediate effect," read a statement on club website www.nottinghamforest.co.uk.

"Clark has the unique distinction of not only having played for the club - and won league championship and European Cup winners' medals - but also to have enjoyed great success as manager of The Reds."
