Big bans and fines in Tyrone

by JP Lonergan , 25 November 2011

The recent brawl in a Tyrone club game has seen the sides involved hit with a total of 452 weeks’ worth of suspensions.

The Tyrone county board released a statement on Friday, which confirmed that Dromore and Carrickmore have been hit hard as a result of the ugly scenes that marred the former’s win in the county’ s Division One League final.

The latter stages of the game saw a fight break out between players from both sides, and regrettably the violence also spilled over into the crowd. A number of spectators were involved, with several of them injured as a result, leaving the Tyrone Competitions Control Committee to leave no room for leniency in handing out punishment.

The two clubs have also been hit with fines and the county board statement, while not detailing how the banes are being divvied out, left no room in its tone for misunderstanding as to how the powers-that-be felt about the brawl.

It read: "After a very thorough investigation involving the full co-operation of both the Carrickmore and Dromore clubs, the Tyrone CCC have issued proposed sanctions to both of the clubs arising out of the incident in this year's O'Neill's Division 1 ACL final.

“The proposed bans total some 452 weeks. The individuals concerned from both clubs will be informed by their club secretary.

"In addition both clubs received the maximum fine under the Tyrone Bye Law and other playing sanctions have been proposed.

"The sanctions proposed by the Tyrone CCC are amongst the most severe ever issued by Tyrone GAA. We thank both clubs for their support in the investigation and are confident that lessons have and will be learnt from the unacceptable scenes in Dunmoyle."
