Gallagher opts against switching codes

by JP Lonergan , 02 December 2011

Antrim's Aodhan Gallagher will stick to football in 2012.

The St. Gall's dual player has been a key member of Liam Bradley’s Saffrons football side, but was recently nominated by his club for hurling trials with the county after impressing in their midfield.

However, Bradley has confirmed that the talented Gallagher will be staying with the big ball game, and is delighted as he does not feel that it is possible for a player to really go at it in both codes anymore. Indeed, Gallagher did not attend the hurling trials in the end.

"Aodhan will be playing football for Antrim next year," Bradley was quoted as saying by the Irish News.

"With the new hurling manager (Jerry Wallis) coming in, clubs were asked to nominate players for trials and Aodhan, who is a brilliant hurler - his name cropped up.

"In my view you cannot play both codes, not in this day and age, and we are delighted that he is staying with us."
