New Clare manager Davy Fitzgerald says he intends to talk with former manager Ger O’Loughlin as it will save him time in his hunt for new players.
The two men were on the same Clare team that won the All-Ireland Championship in the 1990’s, and Fitzgerald is determined to gain as much knowledge from his predecessor before he starts his role in earnest.
"I'll definitely talk to 'Sparrow' before Christmas," Fitzgerald said in the Irish Independent. "He knows an awful lot about the lads who played under him, so why would I waste a few months finding it out when he already knows it?
"It's the same with the U21 and minor managements."
Fitzgerald is eager to get things underway and to immerse himself in his role once the training ban for the players ends on January 1.
"I can't wait to get started properly with the lads on January 1,” he added.
“I'll give it one hundred percent as I did with Waterford and, hopefully, we can get things moving in the right direction."
