Sven fancies England for Euro joy

by Setanta Staff , 04 December 2011

Former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson has backed Fabio Capello to lead the Three Lions to overall glory at Euro 2012.

The Swede was in charge of the English national team between 2001 and 2006, taking them to two World Cup quarter-finals as well as the last eight of Euro 2004.

Capello's side have been handed a relatively simple group with co-hosts Ukraine, France and Eriksson's native Sweden, and the veteran coach believes England can go all the way in the summer.

"I think they have big possibilities of the semi-final or final. Why not win it? With a little bit of luck, not a lot of injuries and players not too tired, they have a chance," Eriksson told BBC Radio 5.

"They should be the strongest team in the group. They should go through to the quarter-finals and I am quite sure they will do that."
