German duo retain Champions crown

by Setanta staff , 04 December 2011

Germany once again took top honours at the Race of Champions Nations Cup as Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher followed up on last year's success in Dusseldorf.

The current Formula 1 champions and his seven-times F1 king compatriot saw off Team Nordic 2-0 in the final on Saturday, having battled past last year's runners-up Great Britain in the semi-final.

That best of three last four encounter saw Vettel face off to Jenson Button in the decisive race and the Germans were through 2-1 after McLaren F1 driver Button spun out.

Team Nordic, with Tom Kristensen and Juho Hanninen at the wheels, saw off France in the other semi-final, however they were no match for the F1 champions past and present when it came down to the decisive tussle.

The main individual Race of Champions will go ahead on Sunday, with no Formula 1 driver having yet taken the title. Red Bull's Vettel was beaten by subsequent winner Filipe Albuquerque in the semi-final in 2010.
