Michael Meehan has placed his future involvement with the Galway footballers in doubt after admitting that injuries are really taking their toll.
Meehan, one of the finest forwards in the country on his day, has been utterly plagued by knocks over the past two years and has not started a Tribesman game since early 2010.
The player is currently recovering from surgery on a dislocated shoulder that he sustained in what was little more than a cameo appearance against Meath in this year’s senior football qualifiers.
Prior to that he has had two operations on an ankle problem that continues to frustrate him and is ultimately the reason that he is unsure on what the future holds.
"The prospects are not great. I have to admit that," he was quoted by the Irish Independent as saying of a return to new manager Alan Mulholland ‘s panel in 2012.
"I have to accept that I won't be able to do what everyone else can do in terms of preparation.
"The professional medical advice on this is that the ankle remains badly damaged despite the repair work and it may not get much better.
"Having said that, I'll do everything I can and more to get back playing for Galway.
“But it will take a lot of sound management to achieve it. There's a lot of frustration, but I've had to come to terms with it. Hopefully it will work out for me, but if it doesn't I'll have to accept that too."
