Andy Murray believes he needs more time away from tennis after suffering a first-round defeat in Rotterdam to Marcos Baghdatis.
It has been just ten days since the British number one was comfortably beaten by Novak Djokovic in the final of the Australian Open, the third Grand Slam final defeat of his career.
The Scot had hinted he would take a break after his loss in Melbourne but then changed his mind and confirmed he would play in the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament.
It looked to be the right decision when he took a 4-2 lead in the first set but then lost 10 of the next 11 games to Cypriot Baghdatis to go down in straight sets, 6-4 6-1.
Murray feels that having struggled against Baghdatis he might have made his return too early and believes he needed more time to prepare for the match.
"I have to think about what it was," the British number one said.
"You have to get the balance right, making sure you come to the tournament mentally feeling you are ready to win it and maybe I didn't feel like that.
"I struggled to adapt, it was very fast out there and Marcos was hitting the ball well, very flat, and I didn't really adjust to the conditions so maybe it's something I need to think about how to prepare better, or if it was too soon."
