Blades bring in Vokes

Sheffield United have signed Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Sam Vokes on an emergency loan deal.

The South Yorkshire side currently occupy the third relegation place in the Championship and are the joint lowest goalscorers with 27 so far this term.

Vokes’ season has been little better, the Wales international having injured his hamstring when making his first appearance on loan at the Blades’ Championship rivals Bristol City.

He has another unrelated problems since, but has regained full fitness and recently appeared as a substitute in Wolves’ FA Cup ties with Doncaster Rovers and Stoke City.

He is set to go straight into Micky Adams’ squad for Tuesday evening’s game with Reading and will remain at the club until March 18.

Previously, Blackpool striker Marlon Harewood had reportedly been an emergency loan target for United. The powerful former West Ham hitman, who joined the Seasiders from Aston Villa last summer, has scored five goals in 16 appearances at Bloomfield Road.

However, Harewood has only recently returned to action following a spell on the sidelines due to injury and it seems Blades boss Adams had enquired about taking the player on a loan deal to help him get back his match sharpness.
