Gers reject Edu bid

Ally McCoist has confirmed Rangers have turned down a bid for Maurice Edu from Sochaux and are looking for him to sign a new contract.

The American midfielder has been on the French club's wanted list for some time and on Thursday night they made an undisclosed offer for the Gers star.

While Rangers are open to listening to offers for pretty much any of their players McCoist says Sochaux came nowhere near to matching the club's asking price and now hopes Edu will sign a new contract.

"We rejected a bid from Sochaux for Maurice Edu and I can tell you that I want Maurice Edu to sign a new contract rather than go anywhere," said McCoist.

"I genuinely don't know [if they will come back in]. What I would say is the bid that they put in was so far away that I would be very surprised if they came back in."

Meanwhile, McCoist says the club haven't received any offers for Nikica Jelavic yet and are hopeful he will be fit to face Abroath in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
