Leitrim’s football team has been dealt a blow by the news that talisman Emlyn Mulligan must undergo knee surgery.
The Melvin Gaels forward is seen as an important player as new joint managers Brian Breen and George Dugdale try and lift the Connacht minnows up a level, but a fresh knee injury means he will miss a number of Allianz League games to hamper the managerial pair’s preparations.
Mulligan previously suffered a cruciate injury, though his current knock is not as bad as that and he should be back for the fourth round of his county’s league campaign.
A bye in the third week of fixtures for the county means he may only miss two of their outings in Division Four.
