Paul Curran has been named captain of the Tipperary senior hurling team for the 2012 season.
Curran has been a member of the Tipperary panel for ten years and his long-service paid off in 2010 when he collected an All-Ireland senior hurling medal.
Manager Declan Ryan has opted for experience and has named the 31-year-old as his skipper, taking over from his Mullinahone clubamte Eoin Kelly, while Padraic Maher has been appointed vice-captain.
Maher is one of the younger players on the panel but the 23-year-old already has an All-Ireland medal to his name and is generally considered one of the brightest hurlers in the country.
"The Management of the Tipperary Senior Hurling team have appointed Paul Curran of Mullinahone as Captain and Padraic Maher of Thurles Sarsfields as Vice Captain of the Tipperary senior hurling team for 2012," a statement from the Tipperary County board confirmed.
"The team management and Tipperary County Board would like to wish Paul and Padraic every success in their new roles. They would also like to thank outgoing captain, Eoin Kelly, and vice-captain, Conor O’Mahony, for the excellent leadership they gave to the team as captain and vice-captain."
