South African Branden Grace continued his recent run of form by taking a commanding four shot lead at the halfway mark of the Volvo Golf Champions event at the Fancourt Links.
Grace, who was the winner of last week’s Joburg Open, left the home fans delighted once again after scoring a fantastic second round seven under par 66 to ease himself into the lead with a cool 12 under par over the first two days.
Grace’s outstanding form means that his nearest rivals are fellow South African Thomas Aiken, who shot a second round three under 70, and Englishman Lee Slattery, who sank 10 birdies in an impressive second round eight under par 65. Both men are currently eight under par.
"I'm just really enjoying it out there," said Grace.
"It's probably my favourite course in the world and coming back here is a fabulous feeling - especially playing well."
While Grace is flying high at the moment, overnight leader Nicolas Colsaerts saw his four shot lead disappear after he shot a disappointing second round three over par 76. The Belgian will be hoping to recapture the form that saw him score a remarkable nine under par in the first round on Thursday.
Europe’s Ryder Cup captain, José María Olazábal, was also in good form during the second round, carding a five under par 68 to put him in fourth place.
Padraig Harrington could only finish the round with a par 73, leaving the Irishman eight shots off Grace at the top of the leaderboard.
