Trio close in on Reds return

Anderson and Ashley Young are set to return to training for Manchester United this week, while Tom Cleverley is a fortnight away.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who watched his side crash out of the FA Cup in their fourth round tie at Liverpool on Saturday, has been battling against a crippling injury list in recent weeks.

However, while United have still managed to stay in touch with rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, the news of three key players closing in on a comeback is music to the manager's ears with the title run-in and Europa League action coming up.

"I expect Ashley to start training in the middle of the week, so he's on his way back," Ferguson told the Manchester Evening News.

"Cleverley is two weeks behind that. Anderson will be ready this week, too.

"He'll start training with us on Monday or Tuesday and then it gives me a collection of midfield players that should cope with anything that happens in the run-in."

United are still set to be nine first-team players down for Tuesday's clash against Stoke at Old Trafford with only Rio Ferdinand in with a chance of returning to the starting XI.
