Yuvraj Singh's physiotherapist has confirmed that the India all-rounder is receiving treatment for cancer in the United States.
The 30-year-old had been diagnosed with a non-malignant tumour of the lungs last year but further tests have now revealed he has cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy in Boston.
Jatin Chaudhary said: "It is a rare tumour and is cancerous but it has been detected in stage one itself.
"Doctors had to decide whether to continue medication or go for chemotherapy but since parts of the tumour are just above the artery of his heart, there was a danger that while running it could burst.
"But it is 100 percent curable.
"The doctors decided that he would have to undergo chemotherapy and he travelled to the US on January 26. At the end of March, he would undergo a CT scan and should recover by then. After that it is just some rehabilitation in April before he is fit to be back on the field in May."
Back on the pitch, Australia bounced back from losing Brett Lee for a month with a broken foot by sealing a 65-run win against India in Sunday's ODI.
It was confirmed before the opening match of the Commonwealth Bank ODI Tri-Series in Melbourne that fast bowler Lee is facing a minimum of four weeks on the sidelines after suffering the injury during Australia's eight-wicket Twenty20 defeat to India at the MCG on Friday night.
Cricket Australia team doctor Trefor James said: "Brett Lee sustained a fracture of his right foot when he was struck by a ball.
"We now expect Brett will return to cricket in four to six weeks."
When the action got underway on Sunday it was the hosts who coped well with the rainy conditions which accounted for more than three hours of the play to come out on top.
Wicketkeeper/batsman Matthew Wade took the man-of-the-match honours on his ODI debut as he top-scored for the Aussies with 67, while the Hussey brothers, David and Michael, hit an unbeaten 61 from 30 balls and 45 from 32 respectively as they made 216 for five from their innings which was restricted to 32 overs.
In response India struggled to make an impact and were bowled out for 151 in the 30th over, with Clint McKay returning the best figures for the Australians with four for 20.
