Kearney upset by Ferris citing

Ireland team manager Michael Kearney is hopeful Stephen Ferris will escape punishment despite the flanker being cited for a tackle in the defeat to Wales.

Ferris was cited by the independent Six Nations Citing Commissioner for the match, Achille Reali, for his tip-tackle on Ian Evans in the final minute of the 23-21 defeat.

The Ulster player will go before and independent championship disciplinary committee in London on Wednesday and if found guilty he is likely to face a ban which would rule him out of Saturday's crucial game against France in Paris.

Kearney admitted he was very disappointed with the decision to cite Ferris but he is hopeful that the player will be available for the trip to France.

"We are very disappointed to hear this," said Kearney. "The hearing will take place at lunchtime tomorrow and we will let due process take place before we say anything else.

"I will travel with Stephen. He does have an exemplary disciplinary record.

"He has played 31 times for Ireland and has never received so much as a yellow card.

"The last yellow card he received was more than two years ago (with Ulster) and he has never once received a yellow card for any form of foul play.

"We are hopeful that we will get the right result tomorrow."
