Newcastle have confirmed Leon Best will be out for a number of weeks with a knee injury.
The striker had to leave the field during Sunday's 2-1 victory over Aston Villa and scans have since revealed the player has suffered medial ligament damage.
The 25-year-old has played a key role for Newcastle this season as they have climbed to fifth in the table and boss Alan Pardew will be disappointed with the news.
"Newcastle United can confirm that Leon Best has sustained medial ligament damage to his left knee," a club statement said.
"The striker was forced off in the early stages of Sunday's home victory over Aston Villa having picked up an injury while trying to get a shot away.
"After being assessed by the club's medical staff, Best underwent a scan on Tuesday and will be out for a number of weeks."
