Fergie reveals Nani return hopes

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Nani has 'a chance' of being fit for Manchester United's Europa League tie with Ajax on Thursday.

The Red Devils' chief has been busy formulating his team plans for Saturday lunch-time's clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford.

However, while the 25-year-old Portuguese winger, who has not featured since hurting his ankle during a challenge with Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny in United's 2-1 win at the Emirates Stadium on January 22, will not be fit to face Kenny Dalglish's Reds, Ferguson hopes to have him back in contention to play in Europe next week.

Ferguson, who revealed that Nani had suffered a small ligament injury on the outside of his foot against the Gunners, told United's official website: "Nani could be fit for the Ajax game but he'll certainly be fit for the next one. He's got a chance of being fit for Thursday."

The news will be a relief for Red Devils' fans as it was initially feared that Nani was facing a spell on the sidelines with the ankle injury.

However if he does not feature in Amsterdam on Thursday, it appears that he will be back for the second leg at Old Trafford on February 23 as United do not have a fixture next Saturday due to the FA Cup fifth round.
