Szczesny wanted Lewandowski for Arsenal
Robert Lewandowski has confirmed that goalkeeper Wojcicech Szczesny tried to convince him to join Arsenal.
Lewandowski will leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season to join Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, but if Szczesny had had his way he would have be swapping Germany for north London.
“I can confirm that Wojciech Szczesny tried to convince me to join Arsenal,” Lewandowski told Polish tabloid Fakt.
“We had several talks about this. It was him who did most of the talking, how the club looks inside, what Arsene Wenger thinks of me.”
Lewandowski has already signed a pre-contract with Bayern Munich but he is focused on helping Borussia Dortmund and is determined to delivering a trophy before he leaves.
“My goal remains to leave Borussia Dortmund with a trophy this summer,” Lewandowski was quoted as saying by Sport Bild.
“But we all know we have to improve. Of course, we had a lot of injured players, but we all saw that we have to give our all as a team in every game.
“A lot of people have claimed that I am no longer interested in playing for Dortmund, but I have shown that I am still keen to play for BVB. I want to give the fans a nice farewell gift.”
